Building With Hay Barn Plans - 3 Items You Must Consider
Of all the structures you can build, the hay barn is one of the easiest. It is usually of a post frame construction, giving a great deal of open area within where things can easily be stored such as large bales of hay or machinery. Normally when you look at hay barn plans you will notice that three sides are closed and the fourth is open air allowing hay to be easily stored or removed from the inside.

#1 - Access
When looking at the floor plans you must make sure that they allow you access to the interior of the shed throughout the seasons. So make sure that you choose a location to put your hay barn where the ground around won't become too damp when the weather turns inclement. Plus, obviously, you must make sure that there is plenty of space around the barn to allow you to maneuver trucks in and around it easily.
#2 - Storm Water
It is vital that the location where the barn is to be built has good drainage so that no storm drainage is able to gather up around it. Plus any water you have going into the shed should be diverted away from it. If you can construct the barn on some property that is slightly sloped, that would truly be beneficial to you. Also, it would ensure that any water will not be absorbed by the lumber in the barn which could cause it to rot and have to be repaired.
#3 - Orientation of the Barn
It is critical that you make sure that you look at which direction the wind blows towards where you are intending to locate your structure. Then, using your hay barn plans, make sure that the entrance to it is placed on the side opposite to where the wind will be strongest. Not only will this ensure that the contents within the structure are taken care of, it is going to cut back the amount of wind loads placed upon it.
If you opt for free barn plans, or attempt to construct the barn with no blueprints, you're going to have to figure all of these things out by yourself, which could be disastrous. Building with good hay barn plans will ensure that all of these items are addressed, and that your project is not only successful, but economical as well.
